Charleston, SC is filled with educational opportunities ranging from history, science, social studies and more! Founded in the late 1600’s, Charleston has played a significant role in the history of the United States. Some of that history includes Fort Sumter, site of the first shots fired of the Civil War, the Old Exchange Building, used as a prison during the Revolutionary War and then later as a site of assemblies including a reading of the original Declaration of Independence. Students can also visit Patriots Point Naval Museum to board the WWII Battleship, USS Yorktown. A visit to the South Carolina Aquarium or a cruise around Charleston Harbor will highlight the plants and animals found locally along the eastern coast.
